Topic: Woohoo!!!

I just wrote the Atomic Monks 3D Milkshape exporter plugin!

Now let me explain what that means:

Milkshape is a $20 (soon to be $25) 3D modelling program that handles oodles of file formats. Load/modify/create a model in it, and then you can save it to any format supported by any of dozens of available plugins. Or make your own plugin, which is what I've done.

The result is that I can create, load, and modify nearly any 3D object and save it to Atomic Monks 3D file format (.AMF). This object can then be loaded into the new Pendragon 3D engine with a single command. And it seems to be working perfectly!

The practical upshot is that using a $20 program we can make 3D models for all of the objects in our next game, instead of requiring a high-dollar modelling package.

IE: For $20 and access to a computer, any of your guys could get into modelling for the next game, if you so choose. Plenty of good tutorials out there.

Let me know if you'd like to get into this, my Monk brothers. smile

Re: Woohoo!!!

Gladly. smile

It's the new OpenGL 3D engine that will be used in the next three Monks projects. I'm sorry to say (or happy, depending on your point of view) that it is being written in C++, and not VB. It does this for one major reason: GLDrawElements apparently does not work in the VB environment, which is a  function that I have to use if I want any sort of real performance.

On the bright side, the latest test carried 2.5 mTris/sec, with textures, lighting, and fog. smile

Re: Woohoo!!!

We're planning:

1. A roleplaying game based on Arthurian Britain.

2. A "business simulation" where you are the director of a space agency.

3. A 4x galaxy-conquering game with a very unique design philosophy (can't go into details at this time).

Re: Woohoo!!!

Hard to run a 3D game over 28.8k dialup. And I don't want to even touch Flash. smile

Re: Woohoo!!!

Flash = gooey...
3D is cool
...and guess who's made 3D models using milkshape before... hmmm?
Have a look at (ahem...shameless plug...ahem) http://www.peachysoft.com to see a cool game that my friend made and used stars and a ship which I made in!!!
Now, I know its very basic 3D models... but this game required very low polygon count... now if anyone wants me to model using SoliWorks or Rhino 3D... let the polygon counts soar!!!

Are you talking about the PC one, or the one for PalmOS?

I think I've experienced this deja vu before...
