Topic: Kerblooie!

My computer died a horrible, fiery death. I suspect the processor, but it may be the motherboard. On the positive side, this gives me a good opportunity to upgrade some core components that were getting a bit dated. On the bad side, I'll have to completely reinstall everything and hope the hard crash didn't trash what I was working on at the time (implementing skills and powerups into Muties).

The replacement parts are on order. With the holidays, etc., it may be a few days before I can get back to work on things here. But now you won't have to panic at my mysterious silence.

Re: Kerblooie!

Enjoy the new machine!  I just had to reinstall everything because I got whacked with some nasty Trojan through Adobe Reader.  (I never use that as my PDF reader, and I forgot it was on the machine.)

I think I've experienced this deja vu before...

I use Foxit for PDFs, myself.

Re: Kerblooie!

I've been using Sumatra Portable recently...it's lightweight and works relatively well.  Much less vulnerable to nasty stuff as well. Since it's a Portable App, you can just copy it onto a Flash Drive and use it anywhere...even machines you don't have admin rights to. *cough* work *cough*

No mucking around with the registry, either.  Always a good thing.

Re: Kerblooie!

I've used Sumatra also. I did have a couple of PDFs that it wouldn't view correctly, but Foxit would. For free, I can't really complain though.

Looks like my parts were shipped...yesterday, according to the mail!

Re: Kerblooie!

Looks like the stuff is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It'll be nice to have my own rig again!

Got the parts and did the preliminary assembly, only to learn that I'd been mistaken and my old memory won't work in the new machine. D'oh! Memory is on its way now.

Re: Kerblooie!

Good news, the memory finally arrived and I was able to complete the new rig. Furthermore, it actually booted up my previous installation of Windows! I had to activate it again because so much hardware had changed, but I seem to be up and running. I still have a 640GB drive waiting to be used, and I will be putting 64-bit Vista on it and gradually setting that up as my new system.

I should hopefully be able to start looking at my stack of submitted bugs tomorrow.
