Topic: Migrating Characters to the New System

I'm getting closer to releasing the new skills-based code, and have been thinking about how to "transfer" existing characters...mostly how to manage the attributes (SMACK). I really didn't want to set up a special screen for it, but you guys would need a way to set up your attributes the way you wanted. So what I've decided to do is this:

Your attributes will be reset to five each, then five more points will be added based on your current attribute levels. That is, if you have a lot more strength than anything else, most of those five extra points will go into strength. When done, you'll have the same amount of attribute points as any new character...but then you'll be marked to level up back to your current level. You'll get the normal level-up screen, and will have to do that repeatedly until you're "back" to your original levels.

Your perks will be gone, so that you can pick new power-ups instead. Ubers will be refunded back to your account pool for you to spend as normal.

If you decide you don't like your automatic attribute setup, you can let me know and I'll manually change it for you, but I'll only do that once...so be sure. smile

By default, all existing characters will be Mutants instead of Human, meaning you will be effected by mutations as you level-up. If you don't want that, please let me know before you level-up your transformed character.

You will retain all items, quest status, etc.

Re: Migrating Characters to the New System

Are the characters getting the same amount of stats for the SMACK attributes as they currently have?  If so, why not make the default be keeping the same stats as the characters have now?

What about the perks that were gained from quests (I can think of two off-hand: Spoiler:

tracking and mining
.)  Will those be transferred, or will the characters have to redo those quests?

I think I've experienced this deja vu before...

Re: Migrating Characters to the New System

No, the new characters will start with 5 points in each attribute, plus another 5 points spread around those same attributes (for a total of 30 points in attributes). For the most part, attributes will not change after that (barring special events, power-ups, mutations, ubers, etc.). Your skills are where you get points on leveling up.

The quest-based perks will become equivalent power-ups and you should automatically get those (thus effectively keeping the perks).

Ahhh...I misunderstood.  It's not five points per level, but five points total.  Gotcha.

Another brief update...I was delayed slightly by dodging gigantic wildfires, and a lightning storm that took out my internet connection for a while. I have the connection again, but it's a little dodgy until the crews come out to check it.
