Topic: Skills and Power-Ups, Draft #1

The first draft of how skills and power-ups would work is available for your viewing (in PDF form): Skills First Draft. Feel free to take a look and add your comments.

With this scheme, Perks would actually go away, and be replaced by Power-Ups, which you would get at every level (instead of every three levels for Perks). Detailed information on how the skill and power-up system would work, along with a pretty full list of potential skills and power-ups (including Ubers) is in the linked document above.

Re: Skills and Power-Ups, Draft #1

Some early thoughts:

Opposed Checks - Instead of comparing against a specific difficulty, the highest result wins.
Should still be some chance for the lower guy to win out.  Maybe add 1d10 or something to each person's skill and then compare?  (or 1d[person's karma]?)

Sharpshooter Perk, Sniper pick:  All ranged attacks are one difficulty.
Should this be that all ranged attacks are one difficulty easier, or that you can hit someone at extreme range as easily as you could at point blank?

Migration:
Players will have all of their perks removed. All their attributes will be set to 5, but they will have 5 points to spend on them. They will then be automatically forced to level up repeatedly until they’re back to their earned level.

So everyone would start out at level 1, but they would have enough experience (toxicity?) to get back up to whatever level they were prior to the migration...correct?

For the ones that list "Your <stuff> has a chance to do <cool thing>." is that chance based on the ability the skill is based on, or is this where karma might come into play?

More will come later, but these are the first ones that came to mind.

I think I've experienced this deja vu before...

An actual "skill check" is the effective skill plus a d100 roll, so there's usually a chance for the lesser player to win.

Maybe not that much of a shift, but maybe extreme range would be the same difficulty as long range?

So everyone would start out at level 1, but they would have enough experience (toxicity?) to get back up to whatever level they were prior to the migration...correct?

Everyone would keep their current level, but have all their stats reset to those of a brand-new character. You would then "level up" repeatedly until you were "caught up".

For the ones that list "Your <stuff> has a chance to do <cool thing>." is that chance based on the ability the skill is based on, or is this where karma might come into play?

Are you referring to the ones like "chance to stun"? If so, I had originally put in a fixed percentage, but took the number out to give me room to fudge with the number behind the scenes. smile Karma would indeed play a role in those.

LOL...I thought I was just seeing what people thought of it. Is this your way of saying you want it, and you want it NOW? smile

If the general consensus is GO GO GO, I'll make it the next thing I do.

What are the other alternatives for the next thing you'll be doing?

Mostly some of the miscellaneous extra content bits from the other thread, some back-end stuff you guys wouldn't see, and the new area (Broken Arrow).

Re: Skills and Power-Ups, Draft #1

My vote would go to the new area..but that may be because my characters have either done the available quests, or need a higher ability score to finish them.

Ha, I already started the skills addition. smile

Also, I realized that any content in place before I do that will have to be changed, so I might as well get it out of the way.
