Topic: Muties breaking up with the forums

I'm in the process of severing the game from the forums. That is, moving the game to have its own authentication instead of integrating with the forum. I'll probably publish this change within the week. Most accounts should have no problems, but any older accounts (from an earlier version of the forums) that haven't logged in for a while might not be able to log in.

Anyone that has login trouble after the change, post here, or contact me.

I will also be fixing a bug that kept the PayPal donations window from displaying. Thanks for telling me, guys. tongue

No problem here this morning.

Woo-hoo!!  Any ideas when we'll be able to get through that radioactive wasteland to the west of Casa Vista?

I think I've experienced this deja vu before...

I haven't had any problems either, but did have a peculiarity...my cookie was gone when I came back today, but should have lasted 30 days. Could be something I did with my browser though.

I'm going to finish the town of Empire in the Meers area first. I had just started that when I stalled out.

Yeah, I just had a similar issue.  I had to log into the MFoN game again with my username and password.  All of my account info was still good, fortunately.

I'll have to head down that way...

Re: Muties breaking up with the forums

It was my fault. There was a bug in the code that recognized the cookie. Should be fixed now.

Don't get in a rush to hit Meers, it will be a little bit. smile

That's OK.  I've got to remember where Meers is first.  :-)

Re: Muties breaking up with the forums

Last time I started cleaning things up a bit, it drifted into endless rewrites. Not this time, I promise!

Here's the new menu:

Heh...almost fell for it again.

It had been so long since I had worked with the old code and the content system, I had some trouble figuring it out again. To make it more difficult, I'd even partially updated some web services the editor used, so they didn't work right with the old editor. I started down the dark path of thinking it might actually be easier to just rewrite everything....

Then I came to my senses. I rolled back all the silly changes I'd been doing (I've started a 10-step program with ICan'tLeaveMyCodeAloneaholics Anonymous). I finally located and restored an earlier version of the services so the editing tools will work. I'm currently validating that the editor fully functions...so far, so good.

I should be actually developing content for the town of Empire by next week.

Note that I don't promise to never change ANYTHING.... smile
