Topic: BIG CHANGE to ranged combat!
I've made a significant change to ranged combat. The range to your target is now subtracted from your attack roll, and you can't attack an adjacent target. This may get changed again, but be aware of the change!
This change affects you and your opponents equally.
EDIT:
Ok, so far I'm pretty happy with where it ended up. Sambrook will love having numbers to crunch, so here's an example of how ranged combat works now. Let's say I'm using a sling (effective range 9) against a rat that should up at range 12.
By default, my ranged attack roll is a random roll between one and my agility (7 for my test character). Let's say I roll a 6.
Because the target is beyond the effective range of the sling, there's a penalty. The penalty is:
(range-effective)/effective
In this test case, it is therefore (12-9)/9 or 3/9 or .33333 (33%). That means I lose 33% of my attack roll. So my attack roll gets reduced to 4 here.
At double the effective range, I'd lose 100% of my attack roll, so twice the effective range is effectively the maximum range.
