Lighten the black lines in the middle of his sword to a dark gray, and give his skin a little bit of texture (instead of black lines to make his ab's/pecs, use dark cream/brown shading, etc.)?
You're getting better at this

Better, the sprite needs a transparent background though.
Does elements have a paintbrush/airbrush? What I generally do with Photoshop is draw the drawing, like you have here, then set my current colours to black and white, set my brush transparency to around 20%(ish) and think "Where will the light be hitting this fellow". From there I build up white where the light hits and black where the shadows are cast.
Remember that I am anything but pro at this, and this is just my method/tips.
