Topic: Monk Hierarchy and Little Changes That Mean Nothing to You
The Little Changes
1. Maps are now associated with a region. The region you've been playing in is Oklahoma City, which will eventually link by rail to the region of Tulsa. This is more of an organization change for me, to help me keep maps under control. (The list of maps is already getting long.)
2. Maps now have a jail assigned to them...or not. When you get arrested, you'll go to the jail appropriate to that map. If it doesn't have a jail assigned to it, you can't get arrested. You can bet every village and town will have a jail assigned. What you can do to get arrested comes later...
Sneak Previews
Aha, I didn't put this in the post subject! I thought I'd give you a couple of sneak previews of some of the stuff coming up as a result of the rail station
opening.
Shipping Container: You'll have the chance to get a shipping container. This will be a fixed box of 20 slots that will travel with you to any rail station you visit, and will always be found in the shipping yard. These slots are completely separate from loot and your normal inventory.
The Syndicate: You'll also have the opportunity to get involved with The Syndicate, which is just what it sounds like. When you achieve this, you'll also get your first Fence. This will enable stealing from stores (a Fence is the only place you can sell stolen goods from stores).
Mining: Some of the railroad quests will lead to old mines, where you'll be able to try your luck at extracting coal, silver, gold, etc.
The Hierarchy of Monks in the Order
You've seen bits of this dealing with characters like Brother Morales, but I'm spelling it out a little more here just for fun. This list goes from lowest to highest ranking.
Oblate: Young monks like Morales in Casa Vista and White in Choctaw are assigned to serve small communities. They may serve for months or years as needs dictate. Oblates are referred to as "Brother".
Prelate: A bit more mature, Prelates are found in small to medium communities or are assigned to work with several Oblates on a specific mission. Brother Scott is a Prelate in Moore (a new area to open soon), and his job is to work with Oblates Baker and Wood on starting rail service. Prelates also go by "Brother", like the Oblates.
Bishop: A Bishop represents the Order in a small or medium city. They are referred to as "Father".
Archbishop: Archbishops also go by "Father" and are assigned to medium to large cities.
Primate: A Primate is assigned to an entire region (like Oklahoma City or Tulsa), and goes by "Father" also. This is a pretty cushy position, as long as the lower-ranking monks in the region are competent.
Cardinal: Cardinals are assigned to important regions or cities, often with an Archbishop or Primate under them to do the day-to-day work. They go by "Cardinal" or "Father". Another potentially cushy position, but they directly report to....
Patriarch: There is only one Patriarch, and he serves for life or until the Cardinals vote him out...which has yet to happen. The Cardinals vote on the new Patriarch when one dies. The Patriarch sets Order policy and handles all assignments at all levels.
