Topic: [Change] Death. Please all of you read and comment.

Today ingame, I was talking to Erryn regarding death. Currently there isn't much of a penalty for dying, which seems fairly un-realistic. Below is a post of our conversation. We would like some feedback, so please, feel free to comment. Remember, if you like not having a penalty, speak out or it could be changed tongue


Phreak: I think my next major suggestion will be a "Wounded" effect
Phreak: So after you die, there's a penalty
[Brother Erryn]: Yeah? What would that do?
Phreak: Dunno yet.
Phreak: Maybe 1/2 damage for X moves
Phreak: Where X is the amount of times you've died since the last NiMROD +2
Phreak: Or something like that...
[Brother Erryn]: So you're thinking Wounded cuts your damage in half.
Phreak: At the moment
[Brother Erryn]: I'll have to think about that.
[Brother Erryn]: I can do something like that.
Phreak: Either that or 1/2 tox from the next couple of battles
Phreak: Just because at the moment, if I fill up on loot, the best way for me to get home and sell that loot is to die
Phreak: The only penalty is the 3 actions I loose for healing
[Brother Erryn]: But wouldn't you expect to have "Wounded" removed by the monks when you're healing right after that?
Phreak: Well, yea.
Phreak: That's why I'm still mulling it over.
Phreak: Doe the "Wait for a monk" button currently use an action?
[Brother Erryn]: I don't remember.
Phreak: Maybe it could use 5 actions to wait for a monk, or 1 action with a 25% chance for a monk to actually turn up. Or X actions/bits for the monk to turn up, where X is effected by the number of deaths since last NiMROD
[Brother Erryn]: You could do "Concussion" instead of wound, so it would logically just have to wear off.


Any ideas taken into consideration.

Here's a working description for "Concussed":

You've been heartily thrashed and have bruised your brain. Until you get enough rest to get over the concussion, your attacks and damage are reduced by your Mind attribute.

I'm thinking that when you "die", you get Concussed equal to the "extra" that killed you. Say you had 5 health left, and took 12 damage. You'd be killed and would get 7 Concussed.

I'm also thinking a Concussion can't be healed, must must "wear off" with actions spent...like a real concussion. smile

If I'm reading your inner quote correctly, if you have a mind of 20, you will take a larger penalty than a PC with a mind of 5??  Or is that overwritten by the "extra" that killed you portion?

Would the concussions wear off by just sitting around and waiting?  Say, two actions for -1 concussion, until you're completely healed?

I'd like to recommend an upper limit of the amount of concussion that could be done.   Maybe 20 or so?  Having been whacked by a Spencer Pistol Guy for 45+ pts of damage, that would be one heck of a headache!  At some point, your brains are just plain out of your skull and more damage won't do much to hurt your mind...

The amount of concussion would depend on that "extra", but the effect on you in combat would be greater if you had a higher mind. A PC with a mind of 5 can't get very confused in the first place.

As it stands, concussions would wear off like every effect, -1/action.

I could stand for a cap of 20 or something.

Putting a cap on this would definitely be a good idea. I also like the 'extra' idea, it should be interesting to see how this will end up working smile

It could depend on area. Near the towns, your likely to get picked up by a monk.

Roaming doctor npc guys. You don't get ressurected in your reg'd town, you ressurect in the nearest safe area. That way, you can't use resurection as a transport, which was pretty much the original idea of the post.

"Nearest safe area" is more complicated than you think. The game doesn't actually have any idea what a given map connects to (IE: where it is in the "world').

great, i find out this was added into the game after i decide to try and test myself against the zombies.

I am a Master of three martial arts including ninjitsu, which means I can wear the special boots to climb walls.

Don't feel bad, though.  The same thing happened to me the first time I went over to that map.
