Topic: [combat] spears/weapon switching

i don't know if you could code this, but i think it might be interesting.
have the spear act as both a melee and a ranged weapon.
you could throw it at a weak enemy and kill it in one hit.
if the enemy is stronger than that, the rest of the fight would be as if you were fighting bare fisted (or with your offhand dagger i suppose)
if you miss? bare knuckled until the end of fight.
if you get beaten up? oy, i'd hate to say you outright lose it, it would make sense though.
maybe there's a chance it falls out of the enemy and the monk that finds you saves it as well.
or if you had more than one spear, throw one then use the other melee?

also maybe this should be it's own thread, but it's combat related as well.
how do you feel about switching weapons in battle?
i feel screwed if i run out of ammo, and i have other weapons in my inventory.
of course this would negate the bare knuckle tactic of above, but i'm not sure if either of these ideas will be well received.
if we can't switch how about the having the option of selecting both a melee and ranged weapon?

We've actually got several threads discussing most of this.

The spear you describe is doable.

Right now you have a main hand slot and an off-hand slot. I plan to put a couple more decent off-hand weapons in to help with melee, or at least with defense.

And you're forgetting possibilities like a rifle with a bayonet (for extra melee attack). smile
