Well, Runof The Mill is only level 4, so try some of the quests with that character.  Or create a new one, and start fresh!

Re: The Job Corps Thread

well if we're going to keep the jobs being assigned not chosen (which makes a little more sense plot wise) I would think we could keep track of the last 5 jobs done and make those ones unavailable and the lower level ones available...that way you're not always just doing the same job...I'm sure in the future there will be more jobs so it won't be as big a deal but ya know...variety and randomness are fun, so not knowing exactly what job you'll get and the possibility to do a lower level job would be good...and if you don't want a low level one you can buy your way out of it cuz by the time you're too good for a low level one you've got plenty of bits.

Re: The Job Corps Thread

Just dropping a line here to let everybody know that I'm at least following the thread...but haven't decided what to do yet. It's obvious the current form of the Job Corps is not adequate, but I'll have to ponder what to do about it.

Re: The Job Corps Thread

How about just getting rid of the level restriction - everyone can get any job at any time?  The cost to "buy out" the job and get a new one would be your current level * 50 bits, instead of the job level....or whatever the current modifier is.

Even if it's a job 10 levels below your current level?

Re: The Job Corps Thread

What about taking a page from KoL and using a mechanic sort of like the Bounty Hunter Hunter?  You get a choice between a easy, medium, and hard difficulty level of job.  And like a real world job service, you pay the Job Corps a finders fee up front for finding the job, instead of paying to cancel it.   Either a flat fee or using whatever formula is being used right now, slightly tweaked.

Job Level                Formula based fee             or        Flat Fee

Easy Job          =      current formula                              25 bits
Medium Job   =   current formula x 1.5                        50 bits
Hard Job         =    current formula x 2                         100 bits

Or whatever numbers you feel are justified.  And if you decide not to take the job they find for you, you can refuse it then and there.  Then pay them another fee to find you another job.

Re: The Job Corps Thread

I haven't played KoL in a while...can you give me a more thorough description of what the Hunter does? Is it basically killing x of some creature and coming back?

It would still give you a reward...even if it was a tiny one.  And if you didn't like it, just pay some $$ to get a new one.

Re: The Job Corps Thread

Here's the link to the KoLWiki page for the Bounty Hunter Hunter.  http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/ind … ter_hunter

It really does boil down to "Go kill X number of Creature Y which lives in Zone Z.

That being said here's a more in depth, but still basic explanation.  Every day The BHH has 3 different things that he wants.  A number of  items received from a monster that inhabits a low level zone, one from a medium zone, and one from a high level one.  And the amount of the things that he wants is based off of the frequency that the specific monster appears in each zone (because each item is a BHH item only, so they all have a drop rate of 100%).  And Jick and Co. decided that the average amount of turns that they wanted a bounty to take was 40, sometimes more, sometimes less.  A few examples:

1)     The BHH wants "Billy Idols" for the medium zone bounty, which you get by killing goats in The Goatlet.  In The Goatlet, the only monsters you fight are different types of goats.  So the BHH wants 40 "Billy Idols", which, when you turn them in, nets you a reward.  As a aside, the rewards for all the BHH quests are the same, 1 Filthy Lucre.  Jick just decided that he wanted people to be able to participate in the BHH at all parts of a run.

2)    For the low level quest that day, the BHH wants you to get "Triffid Barks" from the Triffids that inhabit The Spooky Forest.  Now, The Spooky Forest is filled with all sorts of monsters who aren't Triffids and also various noncombat adventures.  So because the frequency with which you will meet Triffids in The Spooky Forest is low, the number of Triffid Barks he wants is also low, 3 in this case.  And believe me, it can easily take more that 40 turns to run into 3 Triffids in there.

It just seems to me that the Job Corps could work kind of the same way, only using MFoN's mechanics.  You go to the Job Corps.  They say,

"Howdy!  Would you like a job of
1) Easy difficulty                            25 bits
2) Medium difficulty                    50 bits
3)  Hard difficulty                        100 bits
4)Job?  I don't want a job.  I'm lazy.

Then they offer you one of the jobs in that group that you picked.  If you want it, it's yours.  If you don't, you don't have to take it, and you're out bits you paid for the service.

Yeah...I play a wee bit of KoL.  wink

Re: The Job Corps Thread

l do like the option of an easy medium and hard job every day that changes each day...and you could commit to a job, then if it turns out to be too hard or something you could pay to have someone do it for you (basically same as current pay to get a new job)... maybe more than 3...like one for every 4 levels...so a 1-4 level, a 5-8, a 9-12, a 13-16...you get the idea...the randomness would make the lack of jobs seem less obvious l think...plus it's more fun...and if you didn't want to do a specific job you could just wait a day and not commit to any jobs...paying someone off could be based on like half the bits from the original job cuz you'll be calling someone else in to work overtime for time and a half...plus this way you could add in new jobs without having to tell us, and it shouldn't be that hard to add more in right? so that little bit of new content would help  keep things interesting

I'd also like to say that despite all the complaining l seem to be doing I do like the job corps thing...
